Artist Statement:
I am a West Midlands based artist that exploring the theme of the female form and its relationship with nature and natural elements, and how far that relationship can be pushed. The artwork I create have links with the Surrealist movement, because of the continual use of metamorphosis in terms of ideas and 3D forms.
The work I create lives in this realm of Otherness, where I have used clay to create these abstract forms by creating and applying natural elements to already made statues/figurines. The extent to which I apply the clay depends on the relationship between the female form, and whether I want it to look equal or not.
I select my materials by deciding which pre-made figurines have the most potential for metamorphosis, by looking at the details and lines they already have. I use air drying clay because of its properties that make it easy to make different shapes.
I was initially inspired last year by a Surrealist artist who keeps women at the centre of the narrative. From there my work has developed into 3D forms where I'm able to explore the female form more and its potential to morph into something else.
